FAQ's
1) My budget is a little tight but I still want to quest. Any thoughts?
We hear you! There are several things you can do. Register before May
15th for a $25 discount. For each new Quest team your team refers, you will get an additional $25 off (post race). Also, some levels of sponsorship come with the perk of having a team in the race for free, so see if your employer is willing to be a sponsor and you can be part of the free team!
2) Do I have to place to win money? What if my team looks the best? That's worth something, right?

Yes! The "Best Costume" award wins $200- the same price as registration. So, go all out, sport spectacular costumes, win the prize, and run for free. Check out some of our creative entries from past years:
3) I've never raced before. What should I wear?
This is really your call. Most people come in some kind of running shoe and other things that are comfortable to run in. Many teams come in coordinated costume because a)
it's more fun and b) you can win
"Best Costume" prize and c) costumes are cool.
4) I want to race but can't find other people to be on my team. Can you help?
Yes! Give us a call at 859-547-5542 and we'll put you together with others that are ready and willing.
5) I still don't understand what you mean by the "challenge" that teams have to do at each site. Examples please!
Ok. So, some are all about team work, some are kinda gross, some use your brain more than your brawn... they are all over the map. Here are a couple of examples:
Marshmallow Building Challenge

Challenge: Teams must build a freestanding structure over 20 inches, measuring from the table top/ground surface to the top of the marshmallow, using only the materials provided. The marshmallow must be at the top of the structure and must be whole. The structure cannot lean on anything else and must be completely free standing. The team can use as many or as few of the 20 spaghetti sticks, as much or as little of the string or tape. Teams are free to break the spaghetti, cut up the tape and string. The team cannot use the paper bag as part of their structure.
Supplies: (at each station, a bag containing):20 sticks of spaghetti, 1 yard of tape, 1 yard of string, 1 marshmallow, 1 pair scissors, 1 measuring tape
Elegant Carriages "Britching the Steed"

Challenge: Put the bridle and britching on the horse. You
wonder, "How? We answer, "Figure it out"!
That's the end of the instructions!
Staff will be watching with sealed lips.
"Dude, your totally in my personal space!"

Challenge: Teammates line up in single file. The teammate in the front of the line faces backwards, the second in line faces forward, third in line faces backward and the person at the end of the line faces forward. Teams must walk the course while holding the balls in place without touching the balls with their hands or arms. Ball cannot be supported by any appendages or be held under clothing. If a ball falls, or a teammate illegally touches a ball, the team must start over. One ball will be in between them.
RULES
Covington Quest is one of a kind adventure involving teams of four that solve riddles and race through Covington, all while taking in the unique sights, sounds and flavor of our beloved city. It is a race, but it's meant to be fun. So be clever, be quick and you could become the Covington Quest Champion!
Official Rules
1. The object of Covington Quest is to visit the ten check points. At the start of the race, you will be given your passport and your first clue. Solve the clue to find your first checkpoint.
2. The only allowed method of travel is by foot. Running, walking, skipping, sauntering and hopping are allowed. Any and all other methods of transportation, including, but not limited to, any form of public or private transportation, car, taxicab, limousine, skateboard, scooter, motorcycle, skates, pedicab or rickshaw are strictly prohibited. Any team using a disallowed form of transportation will be immediately and summarily disqualified.
3. All team members must be present before a team can check in at any check point.
Splitting up is not an option.
4. At each check point you will have a challenge to complete. To receive your challenge, present your passport to the check point Captain, who will be wearing a t-shirt that says
"SEE ME" on it. Challenges are mental or physical in nature. Examples include putting together a puzzle, searching for something hidden, solving a riddle, riding a tricycle around the block. They may involve eating something (no slimy bugs like on Fear Factor). Many of the challenges involve more than one team member. Once a team completes the challenge, all team members yell their team name.
5. You may choose not to accept a challenge and take a time penalty before continuing to the next checkpoint. The time penalty specific to each checkpoint will be posted at each checkpoint instructions you receive upon checking in. Teams that do not accept the challenge will get an
"X" on their passport after completing their time penalty. If a team chooses to take more than one time penalty, they will not be eligible for any team prizes.
6. After successfully completing the challenge, you must get your passport stamped to receive your next clue.
The clue MUST be the same color as your passport. If you use a clue that is the wrong color it will send you to the wrong place, so use the corresponding color clue only. Make sure that the stamp is placed on the correct page. All sites must be completed in sequential order.
7. On to the next site. Just as before, solve the clue to find your next checkpoint. Do not lose your passport: Without it you cannot complete the race.
8. Competing safely is our number one concern. There is no set course and there will be no blocked off streets for you to race through. Please obey all traffic laws.
9. Because it is important it bears repeating....be careful. Obey
the law (including remaining on the sidewalk, crossing the street the
way your mom taught you, and any other safety measure that ensures you
complete the Covington Quest without a visit to St Elizabeth's emergency
room...seriously!)
10. Play with honor. No team or member of a team may act in a way that physically impedes or interferes with the progress of another team. No team or member of a team may push, shove, trip, hit, spit at, or otherwise invade the personal space of any other person whether they are a challenger or spectator. Violation of this rule results in immediate disqualification of the team.
11. If you think it's cheating, it probably is.
12. The use of personal electronic devices is permissible. This includes phones, PDA's iPhones, and internet devices. It is also acceptable to ask people on the street to help you solve the clue.
13. Respect private property. Do not climb fences, walk through yards or cut through stranger's living rooms to get ahead (as this would technically be a home invasion and a violation of the
Obey the laws rule as well).
14. By entering Covington Quest, registrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules. All decisions interpreting or applying these rules are made by The Center for Great Neighborhoods of Covington. All decisions and interpretations are final. There is no right of appeal or review. Any dispute at a checkpoint will be decided by the checkpoint Captain. Their decision is final.
15. Prize winners are solely responsible for all applicable federal, state and local taxes and any other expenses and costs, not expressly listed.
